On Wednesday, teenage darts sensation Luke Littler might become the youngest World Darts Championship winner.
Littler, 16, is making his debut at the largest tournament in the sport and has overcome all odds to reach the Alexandra Palace final, where he will face Luke Humphries.
The unseeded player defeated Raymond van Barneveld and Rob Cross and assured himself 200,000 pounds ($250,000) in prize money.
If he beats Humphries, who would become world No.1 after reaching the final, that will rise to 500,000 pounds ($630,000).
Winning this title would be great. Littler remarked, "I goaled to win one game and return after Christmas. I'm here." I still can't picture lifting that trophy. Just stay focused, relax, and be Luke Littler.”
Last year's world youth victory gave Littler a great name in the sport. He surprised many with his World Championship performances.
Playing Humphries or not, he could win large awards in the future. Headlines and famous fans like Arsenal players Declan Rice and Aaron Ramsdale have also helped him gain prominence.
The tournament's loud spectators love his theatrics, but his down-to-earth nature complements it. The final preparation will follow his successful pattern, he said.
Humphries defeated Scott Williams 6-0 while Littler defeated 2018 winner Rob Cross 6-2 in his semifinal on Tuesday.
