(Part-2)  Arctic air will grip US this weekend as another chilly blast comes.

Temperatures that are significantly lower than freezing could be experienced along the Gulf Coast as well, which would necessitate the issuance of Cold Warnings.

"These are temperatures that are so cold down South that the infrastructure's not prepared for it," according to Merwin.

"We start to see pipes freeze not only at someone's home, but also we're talking about at the city level that you can start having infrastructure problems, and then you're talking about towns that are shutting down for a day just because of the cold."

With temperatures that remain below freezing for extended periods of time, there is a possibility that certain areas will not experience temperatures that rise above freezing for several days.

During the morning hours of Tuesday, the temperature in Kansas City plummeted to a miserable -10 degrees. The temperature reached -10 degrees or lower for the fourth consecutive day, making it the second-longest stretch of such cold weather in the city's 136 years of records, according to the National Weather Service.

This was the fourth consecutive day that the temperature reached -10 degrees or lower. From the 18th to the 22nd of December in 1983, the longest streak ever recorded was five days.

At one o'clock on Wednesday morning, the temperature in Nashville, Tennessee, dropped to three degrees below zero. During the cold spell that occurred in December 2022, that temperature tied the record for the coldest temperature ever recorded in Music City. It was only the second time since 1996 that the thermometer has dropped below zero.

According to the long-range temperature forecast provided by the Climate Prediction Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the majority of the United States is expected to see temperatures that are higher above the average for the month of January during the following week.
