Several inches to feet of snow will fall on Wednesday across the Buffalo area as a result of the lake-effect band off Lake Erie.
As far north as far southern Niagara County is likely to be reached by the band's northern edge, according to the FOX Forecast Center.
The National Weather Service office in Buffalo warned that gusts gusting over 35 mph later on Wednesday might cause whiteout conditions at times due to the powdery snow and low water content.
As winds shift to the west-southwest, the core of the snow band caused by Lake Ontario will move into the New York towns of Watertown and Fort Drum.
This snow band is expected to remain in these locations until Thursday. The predicted snowfall rate is between one and two inches per hour.
Whiteout conditions are expected at times due to the blowing and drifting snow caused by the fluffy snow and winds gusting over 35 mph.
Heavy snowfall covered Hoak’s Lakeshore Restaurant in Hamburg with icicles, as captured by Richard Hulburd from @weather_buffalo.
During his writing for X on Monday, Hulburd noted that the situation made him feel as though he had "walked into the movie Frozen."
