Sweet Potato Pie Recipe

Sweet potato pie is a classic Southern dessert that's rich, creamy, and perfect for any occasion. Here's a traditional recipe to make this delicious pie at home:

Ingredients: For the Pie Crust: – 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour – 1/2 teaspoon salt – 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed – 3-4 tablespoons ice water

For the Sweet Potato Filling: – 2 medium sweet potatoes (about 1 1/2 pounds) – 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted – 3/4 cup granulated sugar – 1/2 cup brown sugar – 2 large eggs

– 1/2 cup evaporated milk or half-and-half – 1 teaspoon vanilla extract – 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon – 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg – 1/4 teaspoon salt

Prepare the Pie Crust: – In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. – Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

– Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together. Be careful not to overwork the dough. – Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Prepare the Sweet Potatoes: – Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). – Wash and scrub the sweet potatoes, then pierce them several times with a fork. – Place the sweet potatoes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 45-60 minutes, or until they are tender and can be easily pierced with a fork.

– Remove the sweet potatoes from the oven and let them cool slightly. Once cool enough to handle, peel off the skins and discard. Mash the sweet potatoes until smooth and set aside.
